Doordarshan cameraman, 2 cops killed in the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh
A Doordarshan cameraman and two security personnel who were on election coverage in the poll-bound state were killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on Tuesday. And according to reports, the DD cameraperson has been identified asAchyuta NandaSahu.
The Doordarshan crew was in Dantewada for the election coverage. They had interviewed SP Abhishek Pallav in the morning and were moving towards Nirbhaya when the incident occurred on the Aranpur-Dantewada road.
“Those killed were identified as Sub Inspector Rudra Pratap, Assistant Constable Mangala and DD News cameraman Achyutanand from Delhi,” Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P told.
I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore condemned the Naxal attack and said, ” We stand in solidarity with the family of the cameraman, we will take care of his family. We salute all those media persons who go for coverage in such dangerous situations and remember their bravery.”
Following the incident, a high alert has been issued with the IB warning of more such attacks in the run-up to the elections. The alerts have been issued specifically in the Bastar, Kanker Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, and Rajnandgaon districts, where the Naxal menace is high. The first phase of the polls will be held in the state on November 12 covering 18 constituencies across the eight Naxal-affected districts.
